Take a stand:
What concerns me is how aging is viewed and the attitudes and opportunities presented to older adults as their lives evolve. Downsize is more than just leaving your abode. Warehousing is common. Expectations are varied and small.
Write a first paragraph:
We are hungry to categorize living into useful bits: best before dates often apply. It seems that we believe that aging is fine for wine, but why do we consider bottling a life? Children's utterances are cherished and over our lives stories are told and decisions are made; however, aging and retirement seems to change the paradigm. All of the knowledge, memories and stories are listened to less intently- older adults' passion and purpose for living is often calibrated or sought on special occasions. How we matter may be less clear.
Write a last line:
We find ways to make sense of the world; however, we should consider that our eternal spirit burns all of our lives and that life has a single end.
The above bits are a rough draft from a writing workshop...now the work begins. Thanks Geist.
